COMMISSIONS

In order for the Parliament to make decisions on such a wide variety of topics and carry on with its job, the deputies are divided among committees; each of them specialized in a single matter. The committees can be permanent or temporary and they consider and amend the legislative proposals of the European Commission and start the negotiations on these with the EU ministers. Moreover, they also draft resolutions on topical matters.

During the current mandate, the mail goal is to create the European Green Deal, a new strategy for the development of the EU as a modern economy, efficient for what concerns the resources and competitive. According to this new vision, the economic growth has to be dissociated from the use of resources, without leaving behind no one. The final goal is the achievement of the carbon emissions neutrality by 2050 in Europe. To stay up to date with every step of the way check here.

SPECIAL COMMITTEE ON BEATING CANCER (BECA)

The Special Commission, which worked from February 2021 to February 2022, was responsible for carrying out policies and actions aimed at helping people at every stage of the disease: from prevention, to diagnosis, to treatment. Not only that, it has been the voice of doctors, health professionals and researchers fighting cancer. The aim has been to give all EU citizens access to the best possible prevention and treatment and to outline the priorities that need to be taken forward in the battle against cancer. For this Commission, I had the honour of taking on the role of coordinator for the S&D Group.

UE-SERBIA

EU-SERBIA RELATIONS DELEGATION

Since June 2022, I have held the position of Chair of the Delegation of the EU-Serbia Parliamentary Stabilisation and Association Committee. Our work includes all aspects of Serbia’s accession to the Union. In particular, we focus on the operation of democratic institutions, improving the electoral environment and strengthening the inter-party dialogue, the protection of fundamental rights, regional cooperation and the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue. We try to help Serbia prepare for EU membership, while working on an ambitious roadmap for accession. We watch Serbia’s strategic choices with interest and discuss them with our partners in the Serbian Parliament.

COVI

SPECIAL COMMITTEE ON THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC (COVI)

The COVI Special Committee, created in April 2022, has an important and ambitious objective, to analyse the European response to the health crisis and to formulate recommendations with the lessons learnt from this pandemic to contribute to the future action of the European Union in the social and health field. This step is fundamental for the establishment of a true ‘European Health Union’: we have realised in recent years that no one saves himself, especially in critical situations such as those shown by the health crisis. In this Committee, I have the honour of acting as shadow rapporteur, for the Socialist and Democrat Group, in the drafting of the final report of the Committee work.
